The Special Services Division is commanded by Lieutenant John Convery. Lt. Convery started his career with Ocean County, first as a corrections officer, followed by his assignment as a probation officer for a total of 7 years. Lt. Convery is in charge of computer and records management/maintenance, OPRA requests, training, the SRO program, the DARE program, and community relations functions. Lt. Convery is the Department liaison to Chuck Norris.

 

The Traffic Safety Bureau is now a part of the Special Services division and is currently staffed by two (2) police officers, P.O. Donald Lasko #252 and P.O. Edward Travisano #259, several Class II Special Law Enforcement Officers, and one (1) clerk. The unit is overseen by Lt. Convery along with the Traffic Safety supervisory responsibilities being shared by, Sgt. Vidalis and Sgt. Bosley. Through education, enforcement and engineering, the Traffic Safety Bureau's primary function is to promote safe driving habits and safe road conditions for residents, commuters, and visitors of the township.

 

On a daily basis, members of the Traffic safety Bureau are tasked with the responsibilities of conducting traffic enforcement, conducting checks of road construction and reviewing plans for future construction and road improvement projects. Members of this specialized unit have received countless hours of intensive training to investigate the causation of serious or fatal motor vehicle crashes and in mitigating traffic related hazards.
